Microsoft looking at investing in Foursquare
Microsoft is reportedly in talks with Foursquare to acquire an equity stake in the social location service. Bloomberg reports that both Microsoft and American Express are competiting for a stake in Foursquare, which is also in talks with other companies for a possible investment.
Foursquare had raised $41 million in debt in April and also talking to venture of converting their holdings into equity stake. Foursquare has been actively updating its services by launching an interactive app on Windows 8 and also updating its Android app with push notifications in a bid to attract more advertisers.
Microsoft had earlier invested in Facebook in 2007 and ensured that it does not partner with Google especially for web search. Apple was last rumored to be in talks for making Foursquare data available on Apple Maps for iOS devices.
