Microsoft Xbox could soon carry support for a keyboard and mouse. Currently Microsoft’s gaming console only supports keyboard and mouse for playing Minecraft. However, that could soon change thanks to Microsoft’s partnership with Razer, who is currently rumored to be developing the Razer Turret keyboard and mouse for the Xbox.

Windows Central spotted leaked documents from Microsoft, which also state that the company is adding support for Razer Chroma RGB lighting for Xbox-version of PC games such as Overwatch, DOTA2, and more. The company states that this will help provide an immersive gaming experience.

The leaked documents carry further rules and guidelines for developers for implementing keyboard and mouse support for their games. Microsoft is giving developers the freedom to use the two peripherals any which way they seem is best. However, gamepad support is still necessary, and Xbox will only support one keyboard and mouse.

The option to add multiplayer support between the two PC peripherals, and the gamepad has also been given to the developers. But Microsoft suggests developers to monitor how keyboard and mouse players will compete against gamepad players in order to make adjustments and keep things fair.

The report also states that the mouse on the Xbox will carry support for five buttons, and both horizontal and vertical wheel movements. Developers will further have the ability to inquire about mouse capabilities and the ability to report mouse pointer location along with pointer movement. There will be other features added as well.

Support for all USB mice that are supported on Windows will also be added to the Xbox. However, Mice that come with additional drivers and Bluetooth connectivity will not be compatible. Microsoft also states that it will be releasing an API for developers, which will help detect and block unauthorized keyboard and mouse peripherals that mimic the controller behavior unfairly.

That said, it should be noted that it is too early to say if Microsoft will actually be bringing support for PC peripherals to Xbox. However, earlier reports have suggested the company to make that promise couple of months ago, in order to give Xbox players that flexibility between a gamepad and keyboard. We can only wait for an official word from Microsoft now.
