Microsoft is working on a location sharing app named ‘People Sense’ which would allow users to chat and share their real-time location with friends and family members. The app — which seems to borrow features from Apple’s Find my Friends app — would also integrate with Bing Maps.
Details of the app were first posted on Microsoft Place’s Spanish website. According to a blog post, People Sense would allow users to locate their friends on a map, get detailed directions, and also offer calling and messaging options. The project is codenamed Buddy Aware, and you can get a sense of what this app would do from the embedded video below.
The app is still being worked on and could see a number of more features when it releases to public. The company also plans to add offer integration with third-party applications for communication, navigation and additional information.
Microsoft could bake it as a built-in feature in its Windows Phone mobile operating system. The company could use it to replace the Rooms features which it is dropping from Windows Phone. The feature was added to the mobile OS with Windows Phone 8 two years ago.
