Motorola is set to launch the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play smartphones in India today. The smartphones are the first devices from the Lenovo-owned company to embrace the new taller display, and also get updated specifications. Moto G6, Moto G6 Play were launched alongside Moto G6 Plus for the global market in April.
Ahead of the launch, Motorola has already confirmed that Moto G6 will be exclusive to Amazon India, while the Moto G6 Play will be available exclusively on Flipkart. Both the smartphones will also be available via Moto Hub stores across the country. Motorola and its parent Lenovo have lost out to Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo in the Indian market. The company, which used to be among the top five smartphone brands in the country, is facing increased pressure from players like Huawei’s Honor and China’s Transsion Holdings.
Lenovo-Motorola has also lost two key executives in the form of Sudhin Mathur and Anuj Sharma as the smartphone battle intensifies in the country. Today’s launch will decide the future of Motorola in the country as it tries to battle the mainstream smartphone players.
