Motorola Moto G vs HTC Desire 310: Priced at Rs 11,350, HTC lacks desire to compete

While we are still awaiting the official announcement, HTC’s Desire 310 has been listed on online retailer Snapdeal’s website for a price of Rs 11,350. Earlier this year HTC had mentioned it will become more active in the mid-end segment in order to get its shipment numbers up and become more aggressive. However, the Desire 310 is anything but competitive.

The HTC Desire 310 features a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480×854 pixels) display, a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor and 512MB of RAM. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and gets an internal storage of 4GB that is expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card. The dual-SIM phone gets a 2,000mAh battery, and a fixed focus 5-megapixel camera on the rear and a VGA snapper up front.

The closest competitor to the Desire 310 is the Motorola Moto G. Both phones feature 4.5-inch displays but the Moto G gets a higher resolution HD display (1280×720 pixels). The Moto G gets a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM, so while the processors are closely matched, the RAM on the Motorola is twice as that of the HTC. Both phones are dual-SIM and get similar-sized batteries too.

On the photography front, Moto G gets an auto-focus 5-megapixel unit at the back and a 1.3-megapixel front snapper, both of which are better than the Desire 310′s. While the HTC Desire 310 gets an expandable memory, the Moto G has to make do with its internal memory only, which is 8GB or 16GB, depending on the variant. The Moto G runs on Android 4.4 KitKat while the Desire 310 is still stuck on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The Moto G also gets water and dust resistance, which the Desire 310 does not. Yes, the Moto G is available for Rs 1,000 extra, starting from Rs 12,499, but it offers much more in value than the HTC Desire 310.
