Lenovo-owned Motorola has stayed rather quiet about its 2018 product lineup but rumors about its devices have started appearing online. Moto E5, the updated entry-level smartphone from the company leaked in the form of render yesterday and now we have more details about upcoming Moto X5 and the Moto G6 series.
Moto X5, as the name implies, will be the successor to Moto X4 which was announced at IFA 2017 in August last year. The Moto X5 not only adopts the new thin bezel design, but also has a notch akin to the Apple iPhone X, which makes it really strange. The leaked picture reveals that it will feature a border-less design along with dual-front and rear camera setup. There is also sign of a fingerprint sensor, which suggests that Motorola could forgo it altogether and follow Vivo by adding an in-screen fingerprint sensor.
DroidLife, which got hold these product details, reveals that Moto X5 will feature a 5.9-inch display with Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone also drops ‘Moto’ branding in front of ‘Motorola‘ on the front. The use of notch is not clear but there is a mention of Moto Smart AI, which could assist in facial recognition and core Android features like notifications.
According to DroidLife, Motorola will also refresh the Moto G5 series with modern design and updated specifications. First up, Moto G6 will ditch the all-metal unibody design seen on its predecessor with metal chassis and 3D glass back similar to Moto X4. The Moto G6 will feature a 5.7-inch Full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 2160×1080 pixel resolution.
It will arrive in two storage options – 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage. The smartphone will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 chipset and sport dual rear cameras with a combination of 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel image sensors. The selfie duty will be handled by a high resolution 16-megapixel sensor.
Moto G6 Plus, the larger variant of G6, will get a larger 5.93-inch display with resolution of 2160×1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. It will have 6GB RAM and will be powered by a slightly powerful Snapdragon 630 SoC. It seems to share the same dual rear camera setup and 16-megapixel front camera found on G6.
Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus feature front-mounted fingerprint sensor as opposed to rear mounted sensor seen on other smartphones with full screen display. The Moto G6 seems to be backed by a 3,000mAh battery while the Moto G6 Plus packs a larger 3,200mAh battery.
Moto G6 Play, on the other hand, will sport a 5.7-inch display with a lower 720p resolution and will pack a massive 4,000mAh battery. All Moto G6 models will feature fingerprint sensors with G6 Play getting a rear-mounted sensor. The Moto G6 will be offered in black, silver and rose gold colors while G6 Plus will be available in deep indigo, nimbus and dark lake colors. The Moto G6 is expected to retail in the US at $240 (around Rs 15,400), while G6 Plus could be priced around $330 (around Rs 21,000).
