Mozilla, the software community behind the popular Firefox browser has launched a new app for iOS users. The new standalone app ‘Lockbox’ is a password manager for your iOS devices and it works with the help of the existing password credentials that you may have saved in the browser if you are a Firefox user. In case that you are a regular Firefox user, you can use the saved credentials to log in to the corresponding iOS app of the service or website that you have saved in ‘Lockbox’.

According to the description of the app, Mozilla uses 256-bit encryption to save all the usernames and passwords on the app and to sync with your Firefox account. This app is only available in the United States, UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia and only supports the English language. Any new information that you save will be synced with your account. This new app is part of the new experimental program ‘Firefox Test Pilot’ that Mozilla is launching on mobile devices today. This program is aimed at helping the company test new features along with a feedback. ‘Lockbox’ is one of the two mobile apps that the program has launched with the second one being ‘Notes’ app for Android.

‘Lockbox’ is one of the five current experiments that the company is testing as part of the program. The company has already launched 11 experiments in the past. This comes days after reports emerged that Mozilla may be working on a new browser of Android to replace Firefox for Android.

As reported previously, the development of the browser is taking place under the code name ‘Fenix’. The work seems to be in its early stages, and Mozilla has only started actively contributing to the project since June.
