While most of us thought the star smartphones have already launched at the ongoing MWC 2018, there still remain a bunch of surprises to be witnessed. Asus, for one, will be announcing a new Zenfone smartphone tonight at the annual tech expo.
It is widely expected Asus will unveil the Zenfone 5 series at the event. The event will kick start on February 27, 2018 at 7:30PM CET, which will be 12:00AM on February 28 in India. It will be live streamed on Asus’ press website. You can also follow the company’s social media channels to get updates from the event. BGR India will also be covering the event live, so you can follow the website for latest information.
If rumors are to be believed, Asus Zenfone 5 is expected to arrive in a number of variants. There are likely to be a Zenfone 5 standard model, a dual-SIM version, a Zenfone Lite variant, and a Zenfone Max. Another variant is expected to boast a larger 6-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio.
Based on past leaks, the Zenfone 5 is expected to feature a 5.7-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Crafted as an aluminum unibody smartphone, the Zenfone 5 is expected to be powered by the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC paired with 3GB of RAM.
Leaked renders of the smartphone hinted at a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, along with a dual-camera setup positioned vertically. The Zenfone 5 has also been leaked featuring an Apple iPhone X-like notch which is reportedly called as ‘the lip’. Other rumored features include Android 8.0 Oreo running out-of-the-box and dual-SIM support.
The Zenfone 5 Lite, on the other hand, is expected to pack a quad-camera setup, which means there will be two cameras on the front in addition to the two cameras at the back. If true, it will be quite unusual for a ‘Lite’ version to pack better specs. Usually such variants are low on camera prowess and other specs. At the back, the Zenfone 5 Lite is likely to pack a pair of 20-megapixel sensors, while up front there will be a pair of 16-megapixel sensors. It is further expected to pack a display with full HD+ resolution (2160×1440 pixels). It is expected to arrive in color options of Midnight Black, Moonlight White, and Rouge Red.
Other than these, details are scarce about the other variants of the Zenfone 5 series. An Asus smartphone with model number ASUS_X00QD was recently certified by Wi-Fi Alliance with dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac support. This model is expected to be called the Zenfone 5 Max running Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. Meanwhile, the smartphone with model number ZC600KL received certification in Russia. This version is expected to flaunt the maximum screen size of 6-inch with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is also likely to run a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC under the hood. Now whether or not this will be the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite is something which remains to be seen.
