Nokia 7 Plus, an improved version of China-exclusive Nokia 7, has been spotted on Geekbench listing with Snapdragon 660 SoC. The listing indicates that HMD Global may have begun testing the device for global launch at MWC next month.
Nokia 7, the first metal and glass smartphone from HMD Global, was launched as a smartphone exclusive for the Chinese market in October last year. While the smartphone launched with a Snapdragon 630 chipset, the new model seems to be getting a performance bump in the form of Snapdragon 660 mobile platform. The Geekbench listing also reveals that it will have 4GB RAM and run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
HMD Global’s plan to bring Nokia 7 to global markets became evident via the official camera app last year. The Geekbench listing suggests the smartphone will be an enhanced version of the one it already sells in the Chinese market and carry a new name. Unfortunately there isn’t much information on its hardware features like display size and battery capacity.
With the hardware specifications spotted on Geekbench, Nokia 7 Plus will fit between the Nokia 7 with Snapdragon 630 and the flagship Nokia 8 with Snapdragon 835 chipset. However, there won’t be much difference in performance between Snapdragon 630 and Snapdragon 660 but it does a better Adreno 512 GPU and Hexagon 680 DSP. The Nokia 7 might be announced as a mid-range offering competing against devices from brands like Oppo, Vivo and Moto.
Apart from Nokia 7 Plus, HMD Global is also expected to launch Nokia 9 flagship smartphone with thin bezel design, Snapdragon 835 chipset, dual rear camera setup and 18:9 display at MWC 2018. There are also rumors of the company showcasing Zeiss’ penta-lens camera system on a smartphone next month. HMD Global is also likely to announce Nokia 6 (2018) for the global market alongside a 4G version of its Nokia 3310 feature phone.
At MWC 2018, Samsung is expected to hog the limelight with its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ but the Finnish company might have the strongest product portfolio on display. As the launch time nears, we will have more details about these devices.
