We have seen a bunch of new smartphones from Sony recently, three of which were launched just a week ago at the CES 2018. However, nothing seems to be slowing down Sony, with rumors of the company readying to showcase the Xperia XZ Pro at the Mobile World Congress 2018, which is scheduled to kick off on February 26.
Now, there is not much known about the Xperia XZ Pro, but there have been a few speculation about the device that give us some idea. And the biggest of these speculations, which comes from MyDriver, is that the upcoming Sony smartphone may be the first to be unveiled with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 under the hood. Besides that, it has also been rumored, that the Xperia XZ Pro’s processor will be accompanied by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The smartphone will reportedly feature a 5.7-inch OLED display with a 4K resolution, which would be one of the highest-quality displays so far. Sony has traditionally placed emphasis on cameras, and it’s likely the Xperia XZ Pro will be no different. The phone will apparently feature a dual-camera at the rear, with one 18-megapixel sensor and one 12-megapixel one. Fueling the device is believed to be a 3,420mAh battery.
While there is nothing official about this, the MyDrivers report also claims that the smartphone will be priced at RMB 6,000, which equates to about Rs 60,000. If the rumors of the devices debut at MWC is in fact true, that is still no guarantee that it will be officially launched then and there, because that also depends on factors like availability of the Snapdragon 845. Last year, because Samsung manufactured the Snapdragon 835, it got early access to the chip. That could happen this time around as well.
As for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, it was unveiled last year in December. At the time of launch, the chipset was detailed as an octa-core chipset with custom Kryo 385 CPU, which brings 25 percent performance improvement and improves battery life by three percent. The biggest improvement comes in the form of the new Adreno 630 visual processing system that brings 30 percent graphics improvement. The chipset also brings faster connectivity and enhanced image processing to smartphones.
Besides the speculation of the Sony Xperia XZ Pro coming equipped with the new chipset, Xiaomi has also confirmed that its next flagship, the Mi 7, will be powered by the Snapdragon 845, which will launch in April this year. In contrast to today’s report, it has been leaked in the past that Samsung and LG will be the first OEMs to launch smartphones based on Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. Samsung’s Galaxy S9, and Galaxy S9+ as well as LGs G7 and LG G7+ will launch with Snapdragon 845 in February. The two smartphones are also expected to be launched at the MWC.
These smartphones’ launch will apparently be followed by HTC U12 in May, and OnePlus 6 in June. There is also mention of ZTE launching nubia Z18 in the same month. Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 and LG V40 are also likely to launch with Snapdragon 845 in September. Further, come October we will see the launch of Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, ZTE nubia Z18S, Sony Xperia XZ2 and HTC U12+. Interestingly, Motorola’s first Snapdragon 845 equipped smartphone is said to launch only in November in the form of Moto Z 2019.
