Uber to stay aggressive in India
During his maiden visit to the country, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi dismissed rumors about the company selling its India unit to Ola, given Softbank is the common investor to both ride-sharing services. He said that while such speculations are fun, the company has no such deal on the cards.
Given the competition between Ola and Uber is increasing even as the companies struggle to offer subsidized rides to customers and give incentives to drivers, Khosrowshahi indicated that Uber will leverage its profits from businesses in the US and Europe to make up for the losses in India. In his interview with a media publication, he said, “I think we’re going to be quite aggressive in India as far as investment goes. One of the great structural advantages that we have at Uber is that we have many profit pools. Those profit pools in the mature markets in the US and Europe, allow us to actually lean into some of the developing markets.”
