Nikon has launched a number of new cameras in India as a part of its CoolPix consumer oriented range. While the company has essentially revamped most of its cameras under the CoolPix range, it has also released the CoolPix A, which is an entirely new model and has also introduced a number of new cameras the CoolPix P, S, L and AW series’.
For starters, the CoolPix A becomes the first camera in the range to feature a DX format CMOS 16.2-megapixel crop sensor. Previously, such sensors were reserved for only Nikon DSLR cameras. It comes with a wide angle 18.5mm fixed focal lens with a f/2.8 aperture. It costs Rs 54,950.
The new entrants in the CoolPix P series include the P520 and the P330. Both are extended zoom cameras, but the P520 has a Nikkor lens that offers telephoto like capabilities with a zoom range of 42x. It has a 18.2 megapixel sensor. The CoolPix P330, on the other hand, has a 12.2-megapixel 1/1.7-inch sensor. Nikon claims such a sensor will reduce noise in images. There is also an updated version of the P7700 and all the cameras in the P range cost between Rs 16,950 and Rs 24,950.
The S-series of the CoolPix range feature a total of nine new models. The new models are the S9500, S9400, S6500, S5200, S4400, S3500, S3400, S2700, and the S31. These cameras have built-in Wi-Fi so users can share their images easily. These are basic point and shoot cameras. All cameras in this product category range between Rs 5,950 and Rs 18,950.
The L-series has four new models which include the L820, L320, L28 and the L27. Basically, these are high power prosumer cameras. For instance the L820 has an optical zoom of 30x and has a 16-megapixel sensor. The L320 has an optical zoom range of 26x and it has a 16.1-megapixel sensor. The L28 on the other hand has a higher megapixel count as it has a 20-megapixel sensor, but scales back on the optical zoom at only 5x. The L27 also only offers 5x of optical zoom and has a 16.1-megapixel sensor. The cameras in the L-series cost between Rs 4,990 and Rs 15,990.
Lastly, Nikon has also introduced the AW series in India, which currently only one model. This camera is built for outdoor activities and rough terrain. It is waterproof up to a depth of 18 meters and also has Wi-Fi support, a built-in GPS and a world map. It can also be used in temperatures as low as -10 degrees and it has a 16-megapixel sensor and has 5x optical zoom. It costs Rs 16,950.
