Nikon has introduced two cameras for the Indian market, one being the range topping D4S which succeeds the D4, and the D3300 which sits on the top of the entry-level D3xxx range. The D4S is available at Rs 419,950 for body only, while the D3300’s price starts at Rs 32,450 for the body. The D4S will be available at the end of this month, while the D3300 is already on sale.
The D4S sits on the top of the Nikon line-up (bar the D3x). Aimed squarely at professionals, the camera is an upgrade over the D4, and comes with a better imaging processor (EXPEED 4), an updated AF system, slight changes to the body, and marginal improvements to the movie recording function.
It promises to do what the D4 excelled at, shooting sports. The full frame 16.2-megapixel sensor is carried forward from the D4, but now gets better low-light performance and expandable ISO up to a yet unheard 4,09,600. The group AF, a fast burst rate of 11fps and a bigger buffer are the major selling points of the D4S. Needless to say, the camera is weather-proof and can stand almost every situation thrown at it.
The other new camera from Nikon might not be as tough or as expensive, but it boasts features that will put a lot of competitors to shame. The Nikon D3300, gets a 24-megapixel APS-C crop sensor with an EXPEED 4 image processor, does away with optical low-pass filter, and can record up to 60fps with Full HD (1920×1020 pixels) videos. Apart from offering full manual control, the camera also has a few preset modes that will help new users make the most of their upgrade from a smaller camera. It will be available in three colors, namely Black, Grey, and Red.
Also launched is the new AF-S 18-55mm VRII lens, which now features a retractable design, making the lens more portable. It’s a DX-format lens (for crop-sensor cameras) and can be bought as a part of the D3300 kit at Rs 37,950, which includes the D3300 body and the above mentioned lens. And if you are planning to get a zoom lens along with the camera, then the D-Zoom kit makes a lot of sense. It includes the D3300 body, the new AF-S 18-55 VRII lens, and AF-S 55-200mm VR lens. The D3300 with D-Zoom kit is priced at Rs 46,950.
