Nintendo Switch’s latest firmware update 5.0 is now now live on the servers for download. The new update brings some minor changes and some new features. Switch users who expected the next update to bring the Nintendo Switch Online service and maybe the unconfirmed Virtual Console, would be disappointed.
The most significant change in the new update seems to be the ability to add your Twitter and Facebook friends who use Nintendo Switch through Friend Suggestions. The friend suggestions are based on the Facebook and Twitter accounts that are linked to the Nintendo Account.
The update brings 24 new icons for your profile picture that are based on the ARMS and the Kirby series. And games or software purchase made from a PC or mobile device will begin downloading sooner than previously, even if the Nintendo Switch console is in Sleep Mode. And news can be filtered to view only unread news or news from specific channels.
Other changes include the change to the default method for PIN entry using the Control Stick, and buttons instead of the on-screen number pad. This will help keep the Parental Controls PIN private. Captured videos in the Album will be restricted by Parental Controls as well. Users can now add specific software titles to their whitelist to exclude them from the console’s Parental Controls Restricted Software setting from the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app. Users will now be alerted with a notification when a pre-purchased software is ready to play. And the Controllers menu will now show the grip colors of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

How to update your Switch firmware to 5.0
