Nokia 3.1, the second-generation smartphone from HMD Global, has been launched in India. The Nokia 3.1 was introduced as the successor to Nokia 3 in Russia in May and marks the embrace of taller 18:9 display on company’s budget smartphone.
The Nokia 3.1 made its global debut alongside Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 2.1. Following their launch, a leaked listing page on the Indian website suggested that HMD Global plans to bring these devices to India. Now, the company has launched the Nokia 3.1 further indicating its push to gain a larger market share in the entry-level market. HMD Global, the Finnish company with license to sell Nokia-branded smartphones globally, had launched Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco for the Indian market in April and was followed with the launch of Nokia 6.1 with 4GB RAM for the online market.
Nokia 3.1 Price, Availability and Offers
The Nokia 3.1 with taller 18:9 display is priced at Rs 10,499 and will be available from July 21. The company says that the smartphone will be available across major mobile retailers in three colors: Blue/Copper, Black/Chrome and White/Iron. The smartphone will be available online from Paytm Mall and Nokia’s own website.
Those who buy Nokia 3.1 from a retail outlet by scanning the Paytm Mall QR code will be eligible for 10 percent cashback on recharges and bill payments on Paytm. Consumers will also get two movie cashback vouchers worth Rs 250, which can be redeemed against booking minimum of two tickets on Paytm. There is also a cashback of 5 percent on purchase using ICICI Bank Credit or Debit Card.
On the carrier benefit, Nokia 3.1 consumers will get data benefits from Idea and Vodafone. On recharge of Rs 149, customers will get 1GB data daily along with unlimited calls and 100 SMS per day with a validity of 28 days. Those upgrading from a 2G or 3G phone to Nokia 3.1 will get 1GB data per day for 28 days. Idea and Vodafone also offer unlimited calls, 100 SMS per day and 18GB data for six months with recharge of Rs 595.

Nokia 3.1 Specifications and Price
During the launch in May, HMD Global claimed that Nokia 3 has been its best-selling smartphone last year and with Nokia 3.1, the company is upgrading every key element. The smartphone now sports a larger 5.2-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and taller 18:9 aspect ratio. It also features an anodized aluminum chassis with a polycarbonate back, which is similar to its predecessor.
Powering the device is an octa-core MediaTek 6750 chipset with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. There is also an updated camera setup with 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel secondary camera. The secondary camera uses a wider 84.6-degree lens for wide-angle selfies.
The Nokia 3.1 is part of Android One program and runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The company is promising three years of monthly security updates and two years of major software updates, which means the Nokia 3.1 will be updated to Android P and Android Q. The smartphone lacks a fingerprint sensor but is backed by a 2,990mAh battery.
