Nokia 3, the budget smartphone from HMD Global, has started receiving a new update with monthly security patch. The update, 345MB in size, brings security patch for the month of December. This makes Nokia 3 the first smartphone from HMD Global to get the patch.
HMD Global has a proven track record of pushing out security updates faster than other Android smartphone makers. Only the Pixel and Nexus-branded smartphones from Google have received the December security patch. The update also brings improved system stability and enhancements to user interface, NPU reports.
While the update brings latest security patch, the Nokia 3 is still running Android 7.1.1 as its base operating system. The Finnish company had initially said Nokia 3 will get Android 7.1.2 Nougat, but has confirmed that it will jump directly to Android 8.0 Oreo. The update will be rolled out as part of company’s beta program once Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 get final version of Oreo.
With its first Nokia-branded smartphones, HMD Global is promising to offer continued and timely software updates. Its flagship Nokia 8 smartphone has already received Android 8. 0 Oreo update while all other models are expected to be on Oreo by early next year.
To recall, Nokia 3 is a budget smartphone priced at Rs 9,499. It features a 5-inch 720p HD display and is powered by a MediaTek MT6737 processor. The handset comes with 2GB RAM, and 16GB storage further expandable up to 256GB via microSD card slot. It sports an 8-megapixel camera at the front as well as rear.
On the connectivity front, Nokia 3 supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and uses micro-USB port. The smartphone is backed by a 2,630mAh battery, and is available in silver, matte black, tempered blue and copper white colors.
