As the day progressed, reports hinting at Apple using OLED display panels for all its upcoming iPhones cropped up on the internet. Similar to any other working day of the week, a number of leaks were also reported giving us a hint about what to expect from the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 8 Special Edition and the Motorola One Power. There were also reports about WhatsApp planning to launch its Payments feature in the coming week. Talking about technology, Qualcomm also revealed its Snapdragon XR1 platform for powerful standalone XR (Extended Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) headsets. Nokia 5.1, 3.1, and 2.1 launched with leaked India pricing
HMD Global, the Finnish company with the license to sell Nokia-branded smartphones, has announced three smartphones, the Nokia 5.1, 3.1, and 2.1 at a launch event in the capital of Russia, Moscow. These devices are successors to last year’s Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 2 and the company launched at MWC (Mobile World Congress) last year. All the three devices will go on sale from July and they are aimed at the budget market. The company is bringing full-screen displays an updated processor to the new Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 smartphones. Nokia 2.1 comes with an upgraded processor and a larger screen while the Nokia 5.1 is the first device to come with MediaTek Helio P18 SoC with an Octa-core CPU.

All the three phones that the company launched will be part of the Android One program and the company confirmed that it will update all the Nokia devices that it has launched till now with Android P, the upcoming version of Android. The company did not announce the global pricing of these devices but it seems that Nokia India website has leaked the pricing of the devices by accident. Nokia 5.1 is priced at Rs 12,499 while the Nokia 2.1 is priced at Rs 6,999.
OLED displays in upcoming iPhones
Apple has been one of the only top-tier smartphone brands that have been consistently using LCD displays in its phones. And now, if reports are to be believed, it seems that Apple is ready to move forward by incorporating OLED screens in all three of its smartphones that will be launched in 2018. Earlier, the reports added that the company was planning the OLED shift for the iPhone lineup to be launched in 2019 while launching two models with OLED and one with LCD display panel later this year. Apple has not issued any statement to clarify the matter so it is difficult to say what is accurate right now.
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE specifications leaked
A leaked packing sticker for the retail box revealed that the upcoming smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 8 special edition will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC. The device will also come with a dual camera setup with AI-powered capabilities and a 20-megapixel camera module on the front for selfies. This is likely to make the Special Edition Mi 8, the first smartphone in the market to come with a Snapdragon 700 series SoC. Qualcomm just announced the launch of its latest SoC for smartphones, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC about three weeks back.
Motorola One Power render leaks out
As we wait for the launch of Motorola Moto G6 series in India, an interesting new device from the company has been spotted online. The rumored “Motorola One Power” device seems to come with a completely new design.
A render of the device that leaked out on the internet showed that it doesn’t look like any of the recently launched Moto smartphones. The highlight is clearly the full-screen display dominating the front side, with a notch on the top. The is not much known about the device in terms of specifications of the software that it will pack right now.
WhatsApp Payments may arrive in India next week
Reports appeared on the internet stating that Facebook-owned WhatsApp is all set to officially roll out the payment feature to all users next week. The move could help WhatsApp win some market share from rivals Google Tez and Paytm. WhatsApp will partner with ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank to process the transfers, with State Bank of India also expected to join later when it has the required system in place.
Qualcomm reveals its Snapdragon XR1 SoC for standalone VR and XR headsets
Qualcomm has just announced its Snapdragon XR1 platform claiming that it is “world’s first dedicated Extended Reality (XR) platform”. Snapdragon XR1 is aimed to provide high-quality XR experiences while allowing device and headset makers to make more powerful standalone headsets. Qualcomm has worked on making “special optimizations” for Augmented Reality (AR) experiences along with Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability. The company is teaming up with VIVE, Meta, Vuzix, and Picoare to develop “on the first dedicated XR1 platform”.
