Nokia 6 (2018), the updated version of HMD Global’s Nokia 6 launched last year, is now available for purchase in India. The smartphone was launched alongside the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco in India early this week.
To recall, the Nokia 6 was the first smartphone from HMD Global to feature the iconic Finnish company’s branding, and run Google’s Android operating system. It received an update in the form of Nokia 6 (2018) in January this year, and was released exclusively for the Chinese market. At MWC 2018 in February, the company announced the global variant of Nokia 6 (2018), and confirmed that it will be available in most markets starting April.
At the India launch, Ajey Mehta, Vice President and Country Head, India – HMD Global said, “The Nokia 6 has become an iconic device for the company trying to establish a footprint in the ever competitive smartphone market. With the new Nokia 6 (2018), it hopes to strengthen its position in the sub Rs 20,000 price segment where the shipments have been growing in an unprecedented manner.”
Nokia 6 (2018) price, launch offers
In India, the Nokia 6 (2018) is priced at Rs 16,999, which might sound a bit expensive in comparison to Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones. However, HMD Global is pitching the device as the one with good hardware and stock Android experience. It will be available in black and silver white color through Nokia Mobile Shop and select mobile outlets including Sangeetha Mobiles, Poorvika Mobiles, Big C, Croma and Reliance Digital.
HMD Global has also partnered with Airtel to offer a cashback of Rs 2,000 as part of company’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative. On purchase of Nokia 6 (2018), Bharti Airtel users will also be eligible for an extended free subscription to Airtel TV app until December 31, 2018.
Other offers include zero-cost EMI on credit cards and through Bajaj FinServ Home Credit. ICICI Bank is offering a five percent cashback on purchase of Nokia 6 (2018) until May 31, 2018. Those buying Nokia 6 (2018) will also be eligible for 25 percent discount on MakeMyTrip domestic hotel bookings, and a complimentary 12-month Accidental Damage Insurance from Servify on opening and activating the Kotak 811 savings account.
Nokia 6 (2018) specifications, features
The Nokia 6 (2018) is not departing much from its predecessor in terms of design. The smartphone is still built from a single piece of Series 6000 aluminum, but gets a huge upgrade in terms of overall specifications and hardware.
The Nokia 6 (2018) features a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Finnish company is not switching to a taller display with 18:9 aspect ratio like others in the budget and mid-range segments. The smartphone is now powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core SoC with a clock speed of 2.2GHz, and Adreno 508 GPU. This is a huge gain from the octa-core Snapdragon 430 SoC and Adreno 505 GPU found on last year’s model.
The Nokia 6 (2018) comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and supports expandable storage up to 256GB via hybrid memory slot. It gets a 16-megapixel primary camera with Carl Zeiss optics, f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash. There is also an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture, autofocus, and 1080p video recording.

In terms of connectivity, the new Nokia 6 supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, FM Radio and 4G LTE. It sports a front-mounted fingerprint sensor, and runs Android 8.0 Oreo with Android One branding, which will ensure the smartphone gets next version of Android before any other smartphone. The smartphone is backed by a 3,000mAh battery along with support for fast charging via USB Type-C port.
