Another day comes to a close, that was dominated by smartphones. While HMD Global certainly stole the spot with the India launch of Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018) and the Nokia 8 Sirocco, OnePlus too managed to make news by making some important announcement about the OnePlus 6’s notch. Today, Xiaomi announced the date of launch for its highly-anticipated gaming phones. Airtel re-launched its Rs 649 postpaid plan. And in an unfortunate turn of events, a woman went on a shooting spree at the YouTube HQ early this morning. Here’s looking at all these stories in brief.
Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 8 Sirocco launch
The Nokia 6 (2018) has been announced in India at a price of Rs 16,999, and will go on sale starting April 6 exclusively via the Nokia Mobile Shop, and select retail outlets including Sangeetha, Poorvika, Big C, Croma and Reliance.
The Nokia 7 Plus, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 25,999. The pre-booking for the smartphone starts from April 20 on Amazon India with sales starting from April 30. It will also be made available on Nokia Mobile Shop and select retail outlets.
Whereas the Nokia 8 Sirocco is the most premium of all, with a price tag of Rs 49,999. It will go up for pre-orders starting April 20 on Flipkart, with its sales starting April 30, both online and across Nokia Mobile Shop and select mobile outlets.
OnePlus 6 hideable notch
After recently confirming the existence of the notch on the OnePlus 6, company CEO Pete Lau has today confirmed that they will soon give its users the option to hide the notch. Basically, it will allow you to black out the display area around the notch for a more traditional display appearance.
Xiaomi Black Shark to launch on April 13
Xiaomi has sent out invites for an event in Beijing on April 13, where it is be launching its long rumored gaming phone. The invite suggests that smartphone will be made by Black Shark, a company backed by Xiaomi, and might not feature the Mi branding.
YouTube HQ shooting
Early this morning, a 32-year-old woman reportedly shot herself after injuring multiple people in an outdoor cafe at the YouTube HQ. San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini said that the shooter’s motive was unclear and that whether it was a domestic violence incident remains to be seen. Hours later, Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent an email to employees describing his shock at the incident.
Meanwhile, the three people who were shot at include a 36-year-old man, who is in a critical condition, a 32-year-old woman who is in a serious condition, and a 27-year-old woman who is in a fair condition. A fourth victim reportedly was injured as people scrambled off the patio outside the cafe.
Airtel re-launches Rs 649 plan
After Airtel discontinued the Rs 649 plan few months ago, the telco has revised and re-launched the prepaid plan, with improved offerings.
The resurrected plan offers 50GB of data per month, along with unlimited voice calls, even on roaming, and without any FUP limit. The plan also offers 100 SMS per day for the entire billing cycle, and access to Airtel Wynk Music, Airtel TV and Airtel Secure device protection scheme. Airtel is also offering free Amazon Prime Subscription with the Rs 649 plan.
