Nokia has confirmed the last week’s report of it holding a press event in China on July 11, by putting up an official invite on its official Weibo account. The company is expected to launch the Nokia 5.1 Plus, but there is a possibility that HMD Global may just call it Nokia X5 (2018). In case of the official invite poster, the phone will be from the Nokia X series.
Last week, a photo of the promo poster for the Nokia 5.1 Plus (or Nokia X5) leaked out on the internet, courtesy Baidu. The poster tipped the price of 32GB internal storage at 799 CNY (approximately Rs 8,289) and 64GB internal storage variant at 999 CNY (approximately Rs 10,364). Even the GSMArena report suggested that HMD Global is inclined to price the devices at a lower amount in the Chinese market in comparison to the global prices, so it won’t be surprising if HMD Global prices it higher in India.
Also, the promo poster suggested that the Nokia 5.1 Plus will come with a notch display, something that was revealed in a TENAA listing. As previously reported, the Nokia X5 or Nokia 5.1 Plus will come with a Snapdragon 600-series SoC or Helio P60 SoC along with 3GB, 4GB, and possible 6GB RAM variants in various combinations with 32GB or 64GB internal storage. HMD Global is likely to add a 5.86-inch HD+ display with 720×1520 pixels resolution along with a dual-camera setup sporting a 13-megapixel primary and 5-megapixel secondary camera.
There was a listing of a Nokia smartphone with model number TA-1109 receiving Bluetooth certification, but it was only speculated to be the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The same device was also spotted at China’s CCC for certification. One thing that was confirmed from the listing was the it will be powered by a MediaTek chipset along with Bluetooth 4.2 support.
So, if the Nokia TA-1109 is the same device that HMD Global plans to launch on July 11 in China, then it is less likely to carry Snapdragon 600-series SoC, and may just come equipped with MediaTek’s Helio P60 onboard.
