Nokia Siemens to build Airtel’s 4G network in Maharashtra

Bharti Airtel has appointed Nokia Siemens Network for building and operating its 4G network in Maharashtra. The announcement was made at MWC in Barcelona today where earlier in the day it had urged the mobile companies to bring down the average price of smartphones to $50. The 4G mobile broadband technology is a part of TD-LTE network that delivers instant internet access and can support video streaming and high-definition video conferencing. Bharti Airtel will deploy its TD-LTE network in the 2.3 GHz frequency band allocated by the Indian government for broadband wireless access (BWA) technologies. Read for more info…

The carrier has BWA license in 4 circles including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kolkata and Punjab for which it had paid Rs 3,314.36 crore during an auction held in 2010. “In the next five years, data will be the main thrust in India, riding on the waves of 3G or 4G technologies. LTE provides ultra high speed data access, in conjunction with 3G, this will lead the data revolution and drive fundamental changes in individual lifestyles, businesses and the society at large,” commented Sanjay Kapoor, CEO, Bharti Airtel.
