Two months after launching the Obi Mobiles brand in India, the company has launched its first smartphone called the Octopus S520. The 5-inch Android KitKat smartphone is priced in India at Rs 11,990 and will initially be available on Snapdeal.
As far as specifications are concerned, the Obi Octopus S520 flaunts a 5-inch HD display, and is powered by a MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM. Also included is 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card.
The smartphone also features an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 1,800mAh battery that the company claims is good enough to survive up to 180 hours on standby mode. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and on the software front, it runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
The Obi Octopus S520 happens to be the cheapest octa-core smartphone you can buy in India today, priced at Rs 11,990. It will be up against the likes of the HTC Desire 616, which launched recently. While the specs are almost similar, the Octopus S520 is cheaper and also runs on Android KitKat.
The Octopus S520’s crown however will be short lived, once Xiaomi launches the Redmi Note in India. It too is an octa-core powered smartphone and will be priced at Rs 9,999.
