Amidst the rumors of Uber India and Ola Cabs mulling over combining operations in the country, Ola has launched a crucial new program for its customers to further improve their experience. The company now allows its customers to choose to take an in-trip insurance cover.
The insurance cover starts at a premium of Re 1 per ride for intra-city travel, Rs 10 for Ola Rentals, and Rs 15 for Ola outstation. The program is applicable across all the category of vehicles in Ola, which is, cabs, auto, kaali-peeli, and e-rickshaw.
The insurance program provides benefits in cases of loss of baggage or laptops, missed flights, accidental medical expense and ambulance transportation cover, among other things. The optional in-trip insurance program can be purchased through the Ola app.
“We are thrilled to introduce in-trip insurance for our customers under the ‘Chalo Befikar’ insurance program. Just for Re 1, Ola customers can avail an insurance policy of Rs 5 lakh which will also provide cover for missed flights, loss of baggage, loss of laptop, emergency hotel requirements, and many more. The launch of this initiative, a first of its kind in India, reiterates our resolve of building customer-first solutions,” Vishal Kaul, Chief Operating Officer at Ola said.
Ola has partnered Acko General Insurance Ltd to launch the program across over 100 cities in the country. Initially, the service is being rolled out for customers in major metropolitan cities, and will eventually be scaled up to all cities, covering the entire base in the coming weeks.

As for the claims, they can be made through the Ola app as well as Acko’s website, mobile app or call center. Ola has also announced that its partnership with ICICI Lombard General Insurance Ltd will also be live in the coming months.
Ola already runs a similar program for its driver partners, called ‘Chalo Befikar’. The insurance program for customers is just an extension of the same.
