The OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition comes in a new 'sandstone white' color variant.
The phone has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The phone's launch is timed with the release of the new Star Wars film, The Last Jedi.
Just like the OnePlus 5 before it, the OnePlus 5T does not disappoint. We reviewed the phone when it launched last month, and while it isn’t radically different from its predecessor, it does have enough to keep OnePlus’ flagship offerings relevant. With features such as a larger 18:9 aspect ratio screen, Face ID, and tweaks to the software, the OnePlus 5T is definitely among the better phones to buy in the Rs 30,000-40,000 category. It’ll even give much more expensive phones a run for their money.
It hasn’t even been a month since the phone launched, and now we’re already seeing a new limited edition offering from the company. In line with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, OnePlus has launched the Star Wars Limited Edition of the OnePlus 5T, priced at Rs 38,999 and available only in the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant. The differences are subtle and entirely aesthetic, but these simple touches make the device that much more attractive, especially if you’re a fan of the Star Wars film series.
The biggest difference is the color of the new OnePlus 5T. While the regular variant comes in the popular midnight black color option, the Star Wars Limited Edition features what can ordinarily be called Sandstone White. However, there’s a bit more thought that’s gone into the color and texture of the new color. It’s been inspired by the planet Crait, which makes its appearance in the new film. The planet has a layer of white salt covering it, and the texture and color on the phone aim to mimic that.
There is also a prominent red Star Wars logo at the back, towards the bottom. The alert slider is bright red, while the SIM tray, volume rocker and power button are black. The front of the phone also maintains the black color of the regular OnePlus 5T, offering a fair mix of black white and red in the color scheme. While it did appeal to me, a lot of people might have preferred the front to be white, as was the case with the soft gold variant of the OnePlus 5.
Switching on the phone will reveal a bit more Star Wars in it. A set of Star Wars wallpapers are pre-installed on the phone, but there’s very little to prevent someone with a regular OnePlus 5T – or any other smartphone, for that matter – to get those wallpapers on their phone. There’s also a special Star Wars accent theme on the phone, over and above the standard dark and light themes. This is ordinarily a dark theme that turns the background black with white text, but comes with special red accents for certain elements of the UI.
Sci-fi protective case
There’s also the box the phone comes in, and the protective case that’s included in the box. It’s a larger-than-usual box with the Star Wars logo on it, and has a movie-inspired sticker inside along with a themed note on your purchase. The protective case is a rather funky-looking one, with sharp lines, aggressive angles and a big bulge at the back with patterns that give it a very ‘sci-fi’ feel. The case has overlayed buttons for the power and volume keys, and a slit for the alert slider. There are, of course, openings for the speaker grille, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm jack, camera and flash, and fingerprint sensor. An additional opening or window for the Star Wars logo would have been nice.
During my time using the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition, I was often torn between whether to use the case or not because I couldn’t decide which look I liked better. I finally settled on using it for the safety of the phone itself, as well as any other phones that might be in my pocket at the same time. I did occasionally pull it out of the case to show it off, but the case was promptly snapped back on when I was done. It does significantly bulk up the size of the phone, which is particularly important if you tend to fill up your pockets. However, it’s a tough case and will likely protect the phone from any shocks and drops. That isn’t something I intend to personally test, though.

The OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition might be particularly topical right now because of the buzz that the movie is generating, which makes the phone an interesting one to have. However, will it still be relevant two or three months down the line? Will people wonder why you have a Star Wars phone when it isn’t Star Wars season? To a fan, none of this matters. The OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition is THE phone to have if you’re a fan of the franchise.
Is there much to differentiate between an ordinary OnePlus 5T and the Star Wars Edition? No. But it’s still a worthwhile purchase purely for the sandstone white finish, and the excellent protective case in the box. I wouldn’t call myself a super fan of the series, but I’ve seen all the movies and do enjoy the depth of the Star Wars universe. For me, the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition is a great piece of kit that not only functions well as a smartphone, but also adds that distinct aesthetic touch that helps the phone stand out in a crowd.
