OnePlus 6, the next major flagship from the Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus, is expected to launch sometime next month. The smartphone maker has been creating hype around the device via its social media channels and we have already heard details of its features as well including it will be Amazon India exclusive. Now, a new teaser from the company suggests upcoming OnePlus 6 will be water resistant.
OnePlus 5T, the last flagship from the company and its predecessor OnePlus 5 had some kind of water resistance but OnePlus never officially confirmed resistance against water and dust. The new teaser posted by OnePlus India on Twitter hints at OnePlus 6 launching with an IPXX rating, which will confirm its protection against water and dust. Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are IP68 rated while Apple iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are IP67 rated. The Huawei P20 Pro, the new flagship smartphone from OnePlus’ Chinese rival is also certified with IP67 water and dust resistance.

Last year, OnePlus excluded wireless charging and water/dust resistance support from its flagship since those features were not really mainstream. However, at MWC 2018, it is clear that every flagship device now comes with wireless charging as standard and minimum rating of IP67 against water and dust resistance. OnePlus adding water and dust resistance rating to OnePlus 6 can be seen as a sign of maturity in the growing smartphone market.
The leaks so far suggest that OnePlus 6 will be thinner than its predecessor and will sport a notch. OnePlus has already confirmed that the notch can be hidden within the settings menu. Like Oppo R15, the OnePlus 6T is expected to feature a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and taller 19:9 aspect ratio. It is also expected to feature a repositioned alert slider in red color and will serve dual function of manual focus within the camera app.
OnePlus 6 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The rumors suggest that OnePlus will also introduce a 256GB variant, which could be the most expensive OnePlus smartphone yet. There are also rumors of OnePlus improving the dual camera system since its peers including Huawei and Xiaomi have caught up big time with their newest flagship smartphones.

OnePlus has managed to dethrone Apple and Samsung as the most popular premium smartphone brand in markets like India. With OnePlus 6, the company seems to be building the right hype, but its success will hinge on how good the camera performs in real life and how much its costs when it becomes official in the market.
