OnePlus 6, the next flagship smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker, is likely to feature a notch similar to that of Apple iPhone X. Oppo is set to launch its flagship R15 smartphone with notch, and Vivo is expected to introduce a phone with notch as well. So it is just obvious that OnePlus will follow suit as well.
Leaked images of the OnePlus 6 that have surfaced over the past month indicate that it will be designed similar to the Oppo R15 or Oppo F7 set to launch in India on March 26. However, a more concrete evidence suggesting the notch has appeared in the beta software from the company.
Earlier this week, OnePlus released OxygenOS Open Beta 4 for OnePlus 5T based on Android 8.1 Oreo. XDA Developers was able to find instances in the firmware that indicate OnePlus 6 will indeed feature a notch. The firmware also indicates that the upcoming smartphone might be codenamed ‘Enchilada’.
The details of the codename can be confirmed from the references made alongside codenames like dumpling and cheeseburger belonging to OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 respectively. Interestingly, the firmware also included an image named as “screendecor_up_image_enchilada_1” which XDA claims could be in use as an overlay for testing apps on a prototype of OnePlus 6.
A similar image was also found in the firmware files of Huawei P20, which revealed the notched display on the flagship smartphone set to launch on March 27. AndroidCentral recently obtained Antutu benchmark score of OnePlus smartphone codenamed A6000, which could be the OnePlus 6. The smartphone scored 276,510 overall, which is higher that Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship device.
Like Oppo R15, the OnePlus 6 is also said to sport a display supporting an even taller 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone might even switch metal and glass design, and will be powered by Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. It is expected to arrive in 6GB RAM + 64GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variants like the OnePlus 5T. The flagship device is expected to debut late in the second quarter of 2018, sometime in June looks likely.
