It’s been little more than two months since the China-based smartphone maker OnePlus launched its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6 in the market. With the OnePlus 6 now in the past, the tech industry and followers of the field are curious about the future plans of the company. The company has not revealed any details about the timeline for the launch of its next flagship device. This may be because the company doesn’t want to go on record about its plans to launch the OnePlus 6T, which will be in line with its smartphone launch cycle.
OnePlus previously launched its OnePlus 3T and 5T as minor upgrades to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 5, respectively. These upgrades served to infuse hardware with the latest technology available in the market. It is possible that the reason why the company isn’t revealing its plans about the OnePlus 6T is the possible impact on sales of its current flagship – the OnePlus 6. Potential buyers may simply hold out on buying the OnePlus 6 in favor of a potential OnePlus 6T. However, a new report online indicates that the company may launch the OnePlus 6T in the coming months.

According to a report by PiunikaWeb, a OnePlus forum Assistant Head Moderator may have hinted at the upcoming 6T while replying to a comment on the forums where another member asked if they should buy the OnePlus 6 or wait for the OnePlus 6T. The moderator goes on to point out that they will need to wait for an official announcement from the company but this does not really confirm the launch of the device. The reason for this is because Moderator is not really part of the core OnePlus staff that is more likely to know about the future plans of the company.
In fact, OnePlus has claimed that it will only launch a new T variant this year if the technology industry has something substantial to offer. The company clarified that by substantial OnePlus is looking at features or new technology that will enhance the user experience and not just add something that is of no practical use. This could be hinting at the point that there is nothing out there that is radically different for the company to launch a new device.
