Opera Ice, a new WebKit browser for Android and iOS, to debut at MWC

Opera Software is preparing a new WebKit-based browser for Android and iOS devices, which would be announced in February, likely at MWC. The company’s CEO, Lars Boilesen, held a all-hands meeting before Christmas where he showed off the new browser and revealed the company’s plans. Pocket-Lint now has access to a video of the meeting.

Opera Ice does away with buttons and tabs and brings in icons and gestures for going back and forward, hinting that it is essentially targeted at tablets than smartphones. There will be a universal bar where users can either do a search or enter a URL. Opera is not planning to launch a Windows RT or Windows Phone version of the browser but isn’t ruling it out for the future if sales pick up.

Check out an edited video of the internal all-hands meeting below.
