Oppo has launched a new variant of its popular F5 smartphone which boasts selfie-centric capabilities. Called Oppo F5 Youth, it is an affordable version of the original model. It has been announced in the Philippines and is priced at PHP 13,990 (Rs 17,800 approximately).
The Oppo F5 Youth retains some of the features from the original model, but ironically, downgrades on the very aspect the F5 is known for – the front camera. There’s also lesser RAM in the more affordable version. It is not clear whether it will make a debut in India, but if launched, could be a slightly lesser-priced alternative to the Oppo F5 which retails at Rs 19,990.

The Oppo F5 Youth boasts the same design language as the original F5, featuring a sleek unibody with a rear fingerprint sensor. The smartphone continues to pack in the 6-inch full HD+ display with 18:9 screen aspect ratio.
Under the hood, you get the MediaTek Helio P23 SoC, with eight Cortex A53 cores and an ARM Mali G71 MP2 GPU. There is also 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which is expandable by up to 256GB via microSD card. The Oppo F5 is equipped with 4GB of RAM.
For optics, there’s a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture lens. Up front, there’s a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture. There’s an LED flash at the back, while for selfies, you can use the screen flash option for brighter selfies. In comparison, the Oppo F5 features a 20-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling.
The Oppo F5 Youth is fueled by the same battery as in the Oppo F5 with 3,200mAh capacity. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support through a dedicated slot, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11/a/b/g/n, GPS, OTG, along with Face Unlock feature. On the software front, the smartphone runs Android 7.1 Nougat with ColorOS 3.2 running atop.
