It’s the end of the day, and as we draw closer to packing up and leaving for our respective homes, here is a quick read on all the important stories from the tech space. Today Oppo launched its flagship smartphone, the Find X in India. We’ve also got launch dates for two of Xiaomi’s smartphones, whereas Flipkart is gearing towards its Big Shopping Days Sale. However, the biggest news comes thanks to government of India as it ensures continuation of Net neutrality in the country. Here are the details on these stories.
Oppo Find X launched in India
Oppo today launched the Oppo Find X in India for a price of Rs 59,990. The smartphone will go on sale via Flipkart and other offline stores from August 3, with pre-orders starting on July 30. Flipkart is also offering a gift voucher of Rs 3,000 on the phone.
The key highlights of the phone are the 6.42-inch HD+ AMOLED display, which features a screen-to-body ratio of 93.8 percent, and the pop-up camera module which carries both the front and the back cameras. The phone also comes with Snapdragon 845 SoC and 8GB of RAM. Besides that, the company also announced that it will be bringing the Oppo Find X Lamborghini Special Edition smartphone to India, which supports SuperVOOC Flash Charge technology.
Xiaomi Mi A2 to launch on July 24
According to a post on Xiaomi’s Spanish forum, the company is planning to host a global launch event for the Xiaomi Mi A2 in Madrid, Spain on July 24. The smartphone is the successor to the Xiaomi Mi A1, and more likely a rebranded version of Mi 6X.
The device is said to feature a Snapdragon 660 SoC, paired with 4GB or 6GB of RAM alongside 32GB and 64GB of storage respectively. It is also expected to come with a 6-inch full HD+ display and dual rear cameras at the back featuring a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 20-megapixel secondary sensor. A 20-megapixel front camera is also expected.
Reliance JioPhone, JioPhone 2 get Google Maps support
While Reliance Jio announced that it will be bringing WhatsApp, YouTube, and Facebook to the JioPhone platform, a Mumbai-based retailer spotted a new update that brings Google Maps support on both JioPhone and JioPhone 2. Google Maps will be downloadable, once KaiOS is updated to the latest version.
The app offers basic functionality, which includes searching for a place, getting the map view, looking for your location, and more. You also have the option to look for public transport options such as bus, train, metro and more.
Government approves Net Neutrality
The Indian government took a big step towards net neutrality today, by approving principles for it that ensure consumers get free and fair access to the internet. By doing this, the government can ensure that the data providers in the country cannot throttle internet speeds or favor one service over another. It’s a big win for the country as US, which is the home of major tech giants and has the world’s biggest internet economy is still undecided on the topic.
Flipkart Big Shopping Days Sale starts from July 16-19
In order to compete better with Amazon, Flipkart has announced that it will holding its Big Shopping Days Sale on July 16, the same day Amazon plans to kick-off its Prime Day Sale. However, Flipkart’s sale is said to last till July 19, while Amazon’s Prime day is said to end on July 17.
Flipkart is planning on offering plenty of exciting deals and discounts on a whole range of products across categories. This includes smartphones and other electronics such as laptops, wireless soundbars, mobile accessories, power banks and DSLRs. Additionally, buyers using an SBI credit card are said to get an instant 10 percent discount. There will also be No Cost EMI schemes available through Bajaj Finserv.
Mi Max 3 to launch on July 19
Xiaomi has officially sent out invites for the launch event of its big screen Mi Max 3 smartphone in China. The smartphone is touted to come with a huge 6.9-inch display with a FHD+ (2160×1080 pixels) resolution, and 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is said to carry no buttons and is expected to give users the option of choosing between on-screen buttons or gesture navigation.

The device is expected to be powered with a Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC and will likely come in three storage and RAM variants. It’s also touted to come with dual-rear cameras and an AI-backed front camera for taking selfies.
