OnePlus is rolling out the latest version of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 6, which will bring new features to the phone including portrait mode with the front camera, battery percentage indicator in the status bar and more. OxygenOS 5.1.6 will roll out as an OTA update for the stable firmware path, and will bring the new features to the phone. The OnePlus 6 is currently on OxygenOS 5.1.5 with the May security patch for Android.
The biggest addition is portrait mode for the front camera, which uses software to create the bokeh effect for images taken with the device’s 16-megapixel front camera. Additionally, the update brings a key feature that was omitted with the launch of the OnePlus and had drawn criticism: battery percentage in the status bar.
While older OnePlus devices have had the ability to display the exact battery percentage in the status bar, the OnePlus 6 dropped it purportedly because of the reduced space in the status bar due to the notch. The latest software update brings the ability to have the battery percentage in the status bar, albeit without any graphical indicators such as the previously used battery circle or battery bar.
Apart from these, it’s also now possible to schedule do-not-disturb mode, as well as toggle dual-4G network on the device when using two SIM cards. There is also now a smart answer mode for accepting calls on Bluetooth headsets. Additionally, the update also brings various optimizations and bug fixes. Idea users in India will also benefit from the OTA, which enables VoLTE over the Idea network.

The OnePlus 6 was launched last month, priced from Rs 34,999 onwards in India. While software updates have been issued post launch, this is the first major update that brings a feature that was touted at the phone’s launch, as well as fixes issues and criticism that were brought up after the phone’s launch. OnePlus also recently launched the Silk White variant of the OnePlus 6, which is priced at Rs 39,999 and is only available in the 8GB RAM / 128GB storage configuration.
