It has been previously speculated and even some reports suggested of Google Pixel 2 smartphones to come with squeeze feature. We now come across yet another hint pointing towards the feature drawn from HTC U 11 to be seen on the second-generation Pixel smartphones.
The folks at 9to5Google found the existence of ‘squeeze feature’ in an APK teardown of the latest Google app, version 7.12. While the feature is called the Edge Sense on HTC U11, it is rumored to be called Active Edge on the Google Pixel 2. The report further reveals that Google is likely to sync the feature with its AI-based Google Assistant. Hence, users will be able to pull up the digital assistant by squeezing the borders of the Pixel 2 smartphones.
Alongside, Google Assistant is also said to be treated with new features. One of them will be called Routines that is likely to perform multiple actions at one without the user giving permission for each independent actions. The feature is reportedly said to interact with a lot smart device such as Google Home or smart watches installed in its periphery at once. Reports also suggest that Google could be considering giving users options to change the voice of digital assistant. As of now, it is not official and nothing can be said about what options Google will offer. The digital assistant can also get new Hot Words to activate other than OK Google, the APK teardown reveals. However, we recommend readers to take this with a pinch of salt.
Google Pixel 2 smartphones are expected to go official on October 4, as the company has already started teasing the launch event. Billboards and teasers for the launch event have been spotted too at places. From what we know so far, Pixel 2 is expected to get a 4.97-inch full HD display. Whereas, the Pixel 2 XL can come with a 5.99-inch quad HD display.
The two smartphones with be powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC, contrary to earlier rumors of Snapdragon 836 SoC. Qualcomm confirmed that Snapdragon 836 does not exist as of now. Other features on the Pixel 2 series will include dual-camera setup featuring a pair of 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel cameras, and IP68 rating against water and dust resistance.
