Qualcomm has announced the fifth generation of its Gobi data connected reference platform for smart devices that will give OEMs a choice of TDD or FDD LTE connectivity along with backward compatibility with HSPA+/EVDO networks. This will enable devices with LTE connectivity that is locally relevant and 2G/3G connectivity worldwide. Based on Qualcomm’s Gobi 4G LTE wireless baseband modems, the MDM9615 and MDM9215, the reference design is compatible with both Android and Windows 8 and will work on both ARM and x86 processor architecture.
