In the telecom space, the prepaid mobile tariff war is intensifying with each passing day. A year ago, 2GB data plans costed you around Rs 450. Today, you can get 2GB data for at least the same price, if not lower. We recently compared prepaid plans from Reliance Jio, Vodafone, Airtel and Idea Cellular that offer 1GB daily data. Here’s a comparison of plans with a 2GB daily data limit.
Starting with Jio, the telecom operator has Rs 509 plan that offers unlimited local and national outgoing calls, unlimited SMS, and free access to JioCinema, JioTV and JioMusic, among other apps. The plan comes with a validity of 49 days, and offers 2GB daily 4G data. After the 2GB daily limit hits, the speed will be throttled to 64kbps till midnight. Also, if you want to continue using high speed internet after exhausting daily data, there are top-up plans that give additional boost till midnight.
Vodafone, on the other hand, has a cheaper plan priced at Rs 349 which offers unlimited local and national calls, and unlimited roaming across India. The plan comes with a validity of 28 days, and offers 2GB 3G/4G data. However, unlike Reliance Jio, the plan does not offer any amount of free daily SMS.
Now, there is also a cap on the unlimited calls, which is 250 minutes per day, and 1,000 minutes per week. After your free minutes are exhausted, you will be charged 30 paise per minute.
Airtel too has a similar plan priced at Rs 349. With a validity of 28 days and 2GB daily data, the plan also offers unlimited national roaming, unlimited local and national calls, and 100 free SMS per day.
Similar to Vodafone, Airtel also has a cap on daily calls at 250 minutes, and weekly cap of 1,000 minutes. After the free minutes are exhausted, you will be charged 10p per minute for Airtel-to-Airtel calls, and calls to other operators are charged at 30p per minute.
Idea also has a similar plan, but priced slightly higher at Rs 357. The plan offers unlimited local and national calls, unlimited roaming, 100 daily SMS and 2GB 2G/3G/4G daily data. The telecom operator is also offering 100 percent cashback offer, maximum up to Rs 20 when payment is made using Paytm. And for recharges done via Idea web and mobile apps, users get 1GB additional data for 28 days.
The cap on unlimited outgoing calls remain the same – 250 minutes a day, and 1,000 minutes a week. After the bundled minutes are exhausted, you will be charged 1p per minute for all outgoing calls.
Clearly, compared to Reliance Jio, the plans from Vodafone, Airtel and Idea are much cheaper. However, one place where Jio takes the lead is 49 days validity and access to content services.
