Reliance Jio is aggressively testing its high-speed JioFiber broadband service, and it is not long before the rollout will be available for the masses. According to reports, the commercial launch of the JioFiber services is right around the corner, and is set to disrupt the market once again.
When the Mukesh Ambani-led company introduced its Jio 4G services, it overhauled the telecom market with incumbent players struggling to match the high customer demands for affordable, speedy data connection. As the company now aims to expand its data offerings, JioFiber is expected to replicate the level of popularity with its initial free offering of 100Mbps broadband speeds.
As TelecomTalk reports, while there is no official date for the commercial launch, JioFiber is indicated to be rolled out sometime by the end of this quarter. The service is currently under beta in select localities of 10 cities. These include Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Surat, Vadodara, and Hyderabad.
Under the preview offers, JioFiber users are availing 100GB of free data per month. The company had initially promised the free services to last only three months. However, given its track record of extending the freebies for longer than promised, beta users are likely to enjoy an extended high-speed broadband service until the official launch.
The JioFiber plans start at Rs 500 for 600GB of data, and Rs 2,000 for 1,000GB of data @100Mbps for a period of one month. With this massive amount of data at inexpensive pricing, JioFiber stands a chance to replicate the success witnessed after the launch of the Jio 4G mobile services. Additionally, it is also expected to trigger existing broadband providers such as Airtel Broadband, ACT Fiber, BSNL, and MTNL to further drop their prices to retain the consumers from migrating to the rival network.
It is also speculated that Reliance Jio plans to offer broadband and internet TV connection as a bundled offering. This will essentially save the end-user from paying separately for the landline connection, broadband services, and cable TV. This model refers to a fixed voice, media share, live TV, and other services offered under a single umbrella. As is the case with the Jio 4G services, the new model is also said to include access to Jio’s suite of apps, furthering increasing its dominance in the online content segment as well.
