Ever since Reliance Jio entered the telecom sector with aggressive data plans, incumbent operators have been facing the heat. While telcos didn’t initially react much, now they are going all aggressive with plans matching Jio’s offerings, or in some cases, even better. State-run BSNL is the one that has been giving a tough fight, and ahead of Reliance JioGigaFiber launch the telco has revised the Rs 4,999 FTTH plan.
Earlier, the plan used to offer data limit of 1TB, but after the revision, users now get 1.5TB data with speeds up to 100Mbps. Once the said data limit is hit, the speed will be cut down to 2Mbps. Along with the plan, BSNL is also offering free voice calls, and an email ID with 5GB space.

The plan is available only in Chennai circle, as reported by Telecom Talk. In other circles like Karnataka, there is a plan priced at Rs 3,999, but that hasn’t seen the revision. BSNL also has five other plans starting at Rs 999 and going to Rs 2,999. These plans have also seen some revision in FUP limits.
The Rs 999 FTTH plan offers 60Mbps speed and 250GB data. The Rs 1,299, Rs 1,699, Rs 1,999 and Rs 2,999 offer up to 80Mbps download and upload speed, but the FUP limits differ. The Rs 1,299 plan offers 400GB FUP, the Rs 1,699 plan offers 550GB FUP, the Rs 1,999 plan offers 800GB FUP, whereas the Rs 2,999 plan offers 900GB FUP. After the FUP limit is hit, the plans see a speed throttling to 2Mbps.
With Jio GigaFiber, Reliance is aiming at residences, small and large businesses. The high-speed broadband will enable smooth streaming of Ultra HD movies, while also offering HD video conference calls, and smart home solutions. Registrations for JioGigaFiber will begin from August 15.
