Reliance Industries recently announced the next-gen JioPhone 2, along with an exchange program for the first-gen JioPhone. Called “Monsoon Hungama” offer, customers can now exchange their existing feature phone for a new JioPhone for just Rs 501. The offer goes live at 5:01PM today, and those interested can head over to Jio.com and register interest.
You may wonder why Reliance Jio is pushing for a feature phone when it’s the technologically advanced smartphone era. Well, the telecom operator mentioned that there are 500 million users in India that are still using feature phones without internet. The move to push JioPhone is to connect the unconnected. And just like the previous offer, the Rs 501 JioPhone is also “Effectively Free” with the deposit being refundable at the end of 3-years.

Currenlty, Jio has two plans priced at Rs 49 which offers 1GB monthly data, and a Rs 153 plan that offers 1.5GB daily data, both offering 28 days validity. In the press release, Jio mentioned that there are some users who may require less daily data, and to cater those users, it is introducing the Rs 99 plan. It comes with a validity of 28 days, offers 300 SMS, and 500MB (0.5GB) daily data. All three plans comes with unlimited local and national voice calling benefits too.
Additionally, users opting for the recharge plan with JioPhone Monsoon Hungama offer will also be entitled to get unlimited calls and 90GB data for 6 months. At the time of activation, users will have to pay Rs 594 extra. With this, users will get complimentary 6GB data voucher as ‘exchange bonus’ priced at Rs 101.
The calculation works this way – Rs 99 plan gives 28 days validity. You get 0.5GB daily data, which is equivalent to 14GB for 28 days. For 6 months, you get 84GB data, and adding 6GB bonus data, you get a total of 90GB data.
