It’s a Wednesday, and I’m sure, like me, some of our readers may be relieved that half of the week has already gone. It wasn’t an eventful day like yesterday where we had a couple of launch events, but some interesting things did happen today. Sony brought the Xperia XZ2 smartphone to the Indian shores at a steep price, Honor Play India launch date revealed.
Meanwhile, in the telecom sector, BSNL and Vodafone have unveiled two new prepaid plans. In case you missed the top stories of the day, we’ve got you covered.

Sony Xperia XZ2 launched in India
After unveiling the smartphone at MWC 2018, Sony has now launched the Xperia XZ2 in India, and it is steeply priced at Rs 72,990. It will go on sale starting August 1. The smartphone comes with Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage. Sony claims the smartphone to be the world’s first to include HDR video recording capabilities.
Reliance Jio tops feature phone market
Xiaomi and Samsung have been battling for the top spot in the smartphone market, with the likes of Oppo, Vivo and Honor giving them a tough fight. But Reliance Jio has its focus on the feature phone market with the JioPhone. And the telco has retained its top spot with market share of over 47 percent. There are already 25 million JioPhone users in India, and the company is now aiming for 100 million mark.
Honor Play India launch date
Huawei’s sub-brand Honor recently launched the gaming-centric Honor Play smartphone in China, and now the company is all set to launch the smartphone in India. The launch is set for August 6 and it will be an Amazon India exclusive. The smartphone comes with a GPU Turbo mode which Honor claims to improve graphics performance while reducing battery consumption.
BSNL Rs 171 prepaid plan
With the ongoing price vs data war intensifying, telcos are having a cut throat competition to undercut each other. BSNL’s new plan comes with 30 days validity and offers 60GB, 2GB per day. Sadly, it is not available across all BSNL network circles.
Vodafone Rs 47 prepaid plan
To better compete with Reliance Jio’s Rs 49 plan, Vodafone introduced a plan priced at Rs 47. It comes with 500MB data, and 7,500 seconds of calling. Unlike Jio’s plan that is only available for JioPhone users, Vodafone’s plan is available for everyone.
PUBG Mobile adds War Zones
If you are die-hard gamer, and into PUBG Mobile, there’s a good news. The app has been updated to the latest version, which brings bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features, such as War Mode, new weapons, clans and vehicles.
