Report: Microsoft Office 15 to include ‘Touch Mode’ for Tablets
Over the past few weeks Microsoft Office 15 has been shrouded in cloud of secrecy and there have been numerous debates over its UI in the blogosphere. Today, a post on ZDNET makes things a lot clearer. The report suggests that the upcoming version of Microsoft Office is going to incorporate a ‘Touch Mode’, which will enlarge UI elements of the Office ‘Ribbon’ making the software touch friendly.
While this Touch Mode does not work properly at the current Technical preview stage, it is expected it will also adjust the interface for a more equitable typing system for tablets. Through Touch Mode, Microsoft is attempting to keep twin UI elements for the Office suite, which will be adaptable to different form factors, in the process even allowing long time Office users to opt out of the newer UI elements if they choose to do so. Clearly Microsoft does not want to cut corners in either functionality nor user experience.
