Nvidia had previously suggested that the new series of GPU will not be coming anytime soon, but the rumors doing the rounds seem to suggest something else. It’s been over two years since the launch of the previous series of GPU from Nvidia which is the 10 series based on Pascal platform.
Recently Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang had said that the next GeForce GPUs would be “a long time from now”. But Nvidia is all set to hold a press conference titled “NVIDIA’s Next Generation Mainstream GPU” at the annual Hot Chips conference in August. Nvidia has also been sending out invites for a PC related event that they will be holding at the Gamescom right after the Hot Chips one on August 21.
Besides this there was a video from E3 where a Lenovo product manager was seen freely discussing a Lenovo gaming PC saying, “but time to market with NVIDIA 11 Series up to an 1180 down the road.” This is a strong indication that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1180 might just be on its way. Many believe that Nvidia teased the Turing platform in its next series of GPU by commemorating Alan Turing’s birthday on Twitter recently.
There have been many leaks recently, one of which allegedly showed an engineering sample of the GTX 1180. If rumors are to be believed, then the GTX 1180 will be able to play games in 4K ata refresh rate of 144Hz with HDR and Nvidia G-sync support. According to Tom’s Hardware the card will be able to produce 120Hz refresh rates for VR headsets.
