While announcing the Galaxy A8 (2018), Galaxy A8+ (2018) last week, Samsung did not mention anything about the sale, pricing and availability details of the smartphones. However, at a recent event in Vietnam (via Samsung Vietnam), Samsung has confirmed that the two will go on sale in the region starting January 6 onwards.

While the announcement is only for sale in Vietnam, we can comfortably assume that the sale in other global markets would kick off in the coming months. This also makes sense since it reaffirms the ‘early January’ release time frame we have been hearing so far.

Further, reportedly in Vietnam, the Galaxy A8 (2018), Galaxy A8+ (2018) will be priced around VND 10,990,000 (Rs 31,000 approximately), and VND 13,490,000 (Rs 38,000 approximately) respectively. This is much lower than the €499 (Rs 38,000) price of Galaxy A8, and €599 (Rs 45,000 approximately) for Galaxy A8+ expected in Europe.

As to what we know for sure, the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) sport the Infinity Display design. The Galaxy A8 (2018) flaunts a 5.6-inch display while the Galaxy A8+ (2018) features a larger 6-inch display. Both the models use a Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

For photography, the Galaxy A8 (2018) series sports a dual-camera setup in the front. The Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) feature a combination of 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel front camera setup with f/1.9 aperture and support for Live Focus. At the rear, they feature a 16-megapixel sensor and wider f/1.7 aperture.

Under the hood, the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) are powered by an octa-core processor, but Samsung hasn’t confirmed whether it is Exynos or a Snapdragon chipset. The Galaxy A8 (2018) has 4GB of RAM and option for either 32GB or 64GB internal storage. The Galaxy A8+ (2018) comes in two storage variants: 32GB storage with 4GB RAM, and a 64GB variant with 6GB of RAM. Both the smartphones are IP68 water and dust resistant and support Samsung Pay for contactless mobile payment.

The two smartphones run Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, which is disappointing, but are likley to get Android 8.0 Oreo update soon. Fuelling the Galaxy A8 (2018) is a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy A8+ (2018) has a 3,500mAh one. Both the devices charge over USB Type-C port and support fast charging.
