Samsung has seemingly confirmed that it will launch the Galaxy J6 (2018) with Infinity Display in India on May 21. The company started sending out media invites for the event early this week and is widely anticipated to introduce two Galaxy A series and two Galaxy J series smartphones for the Indian market.
Samsung India has now made it official via its Twitter handle that the company will be launching the Galaxy J6 on May 21. It has also revealed that the smartphone will hit stores starting from May 22. The video tweet shared by the South Korean company also confirms that the Galaxy J6 will feature an Infinity Display, the thin bezel display design with taller aspect ratio seen on Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018).
It is also not quite clear whether Samsung will brand the new device as just Galaxy J6 or Galaxy J6 (2018) like it does for all other models. With the Galaxy J6, Samsung will challenge the likes of Xiaomi and Honor in the Indian market. Samsung, which used to be the market leader, has conceded its place to Xiaomi due to these Chinese smartphone makers offering modern design at a cheaper price. With the Galaxy J6, Samsung will give much needed design refresh to its Galaxy J series and bring some parity between its own device portfolio.
Ahead of May 21 launch, the Galaxy J6 had leaked in the form of renders, revealing its key features and specifications. The smartphone is expected to get a 5.6-inch AMOLED Infinity Display with a HD+ resolution of 1480 x 720 pixels and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 7870 SoC found on Samsung Galaxy A6 (2018) smartphone. Samsung is likely to offer the Galaxy J6 in three different storage options varying from 2GB or 3GB or 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB storage.
On the camera front, the Galaxy J6 will get a 13-megapixel rear shooter and an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with LED flash at the front as well as rear. It will mostly run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box layered with Samsung Experience. The smartphone should pack a 3,000mAh battery and offer integrations like fast charging and Samsung Pay support.

The Galaxy J6 could be accompanied by Galaxy J4, a cheaper model with old-school design and 5.5-inch HD display supporting standard aspect ratio of 16:9. It could use Exynos 7570 chipset along with 2GB or 3GB of RAM. It will also feature a 13-megapixel rear camera but selfie duty will be handled by a 5-megapixel camera.
Apart from Galaxy J6 and Galaxy J4, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy A6 (2018) and Galaxy A6+ (2018) smartphones on May 21. These smartphones will be mid-range devices aimed to compete with the likes of Vivo V9, Oppo F7, Nokia 7 plus and Moto X4.
