Smasung Galaxy J7 Duo, the budget smartphone with model number SM-J720F, seems to be the next to get dual camera treatment. The next budget smartphone in the Galaxy J series will not only feature dual cameras, but also enable Live Focus bokeh effect seen only on Samsung’s flagship smartphones like the Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Another major addition will be the support for Bixby, and a removable battery.

The new piece of information regarding the device was revealed by an official user manual first spotted by Sammobile. The user manual also sheds more information on software, and hardware features of the smartphone. One of the most interesting and remarkable features is the inclusion of the removable battery. The smartphones with removable batteries have died even in the budget and mid-range segment, and even the Galaxy J7 and other J-series smartphones available for purchase have sealed-in batteries.

The manual reveals that Galaxy J7 Duo will be the first mid-range Samsung smartphone to get Bixby integration. Samsung has already started integrating Bixby on Galaxy J series, but it is mostly works in the form of an assistant showing reminders and aggregating news from other platforms. On the Galaxy J7 Duo, Samsung’s Bixby might support voice features as well, but users will have manually trigger the assistant since it lacks a dedicated button like the flagship devices.

On the camera front, the Galaxy J7 Duo will use the same dual camera setup seen on Galaxy C7 (2017), also sold as Galaxy J7+ in select Southeast Asian markets. It will use a combination of 13-megapixel primary camera with f/1.7 aperture, and a 5-megapixel secondary camera with f/1.9 aperture. Other specifications are expected to be a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, and 16:9 aspect ratio.

It is expected to be powered by Exynos 7885 SoC, and run Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung UI on top. The features detailed in the leaked manual shows Samsung wants to compete with Chinese rivals, and it is leveraging key features available on its flagship devices. With a dual camera capable of bokeh mode and useful digital assistant, Samsung will be in a better position to differentiate its products from those offered by Chinese brands, which have significant lead in the price segment.
