Samsung has quietly introduced its Galaxy J7 Prime 2 in India. Successor to the Galaxy J7 Prime launched two years ago, the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 boasts a metal unibody design, and comes with built-in Samsung Mall. Samsung claims every third smartphone sold in India is from its Galaxy J series.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is priced at Rs 13,990, and available for purchase via Samsung’s e-store and at offline Samsung retail stores as well. It is available in color choices of black and gold.
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 specifications
Equipped with a 5.5-inch full HD display, the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 features a full metal unibody design with 2.5D curved glass on top. It features a dedicated fingerprint sensor on the front. The smartphone is powered by a 1.6GHz Exynos octa-core SoC paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.
For optics, there’s a 13-megapixel camera at the back and a 13-megapixel sensor up front. Both cameras include f/1.9 aperture lenses. The rear camera supports auto-focus, and comes with LED flash support. It is fueled by a 3,300mAh battery.
Other features include built-in Samsung Mall feature. It is the company’s Make in India product, which allows you to capture images of products and shop on-the-go. You can also use images already stored in your device to search for the product online. Another highlight of the smartphone is the addition of Samsung Pay Mini. The payments feature allows you to make transactions using UPI as well as e-wallets.
On the software front, the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 runs Android Nougat out-of-the-box. Connectivity options include USB 2.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz, Bluetooth v4.1, and GPS.
At the given price, the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 competes with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, which costs Rs 13,999 for the base model. It features a 5.99-inch full HD+ display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB/6GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage, which is expandable via microSD card.
For optics, there’s a dual-camera setup at the back that includes a combination of 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel snappers with LED flash. Up front, there’s a 20-megapixel front camera with Sony IMX376 sensor and selfie LED Light. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat with MIUI 9 layered atop. It is fueled by a 4,000mAh battery.
