Putting all leaks and rumors from over the past few months to bed, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is finally official. Samsung has unveiled the smartphone at an “Unpacked 2018” event in New York, and it brings some interesting upgrades over the predecessor, the Galaxy Note 8. This time, the big focus is on battery, cameras and S Pen, which is the heart and soul of the Note-series.

After the Galaxy Note 7 debacle, Samsung refrained from adding a higher capacity battery on the Galaxy Note 8, which topped at 3,300mAh capacity. Now, forgetting the past incident, Samsung has moved on, and the Galaxy Note 9 comes with a massive 4,000mAh battery which promises to offer a day worth of usage and more. It also includes adaptive fast charging, and wireless fast charging tech to quickly top up the battery.

The cameras on the Galaxy Note 9 also see an upgrade. And just like the Galaxy S9-series, you now get the primary 12-megapixel camera with dual-aperture lens (f/1.5 – f/2.4), and the secondary sensor is also of 12-megapixel resolution, with a telephoto lens to enable 2X lossless optical zoom, and portrait mode for DSLR-like bokeh effects. The Galaxy Note 9 also comes with the ability to capture slow-motion videos at 960fps in HD resolution. Up front is an 8-megapixel camera with auto-focus for selfies and video calling.

And now, the most important aspect, the highlight of the Note-series, the S Pen which is now Bluetooth enabled. This is the biggest update to the S Pen so far, and it lets you use the stylus as a remote shutter to click photos or record videos. You can also remotely unlock your smartphone using the S Pen, and also use it to control the music playback remotely.

Yes, the Galaxy Note 9 looks exactly like the Galaxy Note 8 from the front, but there are some design improvements. At the back, you have the fingerprint sensor, which is now placed below the camera modules. It should help to ensure you don’t accidentally touch the camera lens and leave your fingerprint marks there.
