Samsung Galaxy S IV could sport a 4.99-inch 1080p AMOLED display

Somewhere between the flexible display prototype phone and a fridge with Evernote integration at CES, Samsung also announced its next AMOLED display evolution for smartphones that will be launched this quarter. AnandTech spotted a display at Samsung’s booth at CES showing the evolution of the company’s AMOLED displays for smartphones. The one launching in the first quarter of 2013 is said to be a 4.99-inch full 1080p HD display with a pixel density of 440ppi. This could be the display that Samsung uses in the Galaxy S IV, which is expected to be announced as early as the end of this quarter or early next quarter.

This is not the first time we are hearing speculations of the Galaxy S IV’s display. Though it was rumored at one point of time that the display could be unbreakable and flexible but we reckon there is still time for that to happen. Instead, having an almost 5-inch 1080p display seems par for the course for this year’s flagship smartphones and Samsung probably is ok with being at par for the moment rather than betting on an unproven technology.

Samsung also announced the Exynos 5 Octa processor that utilizes ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture, which is all probability will be used in the Galaxy S IV. Other rumored features include a 13-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM and probably S-Pen input.
