Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy Note 9 phablet in August, along with the Gear S4 smartwatch. And while the Galaxy S10 would likely be unveiled in the first quarter of 2019, leaks have already started pouring in. An interesting information has surfaced on the internet, which will surely make some people happy, but others may be disappointed.

According to The Bell, Samsung will ditch the iris scanner for biometric authentication on the Galaxy S10, and will implement an in-display fingerprint sensor instead. It was first introduced on the Galaxy Note 7, and is present on the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 8 smartphones. At the same time, removing iris scanner will help Samsung save some money, which it can invest in developing 3D facial recognition technology.

Apple’s Face ID is arguably far more faster and accurate in unlocking the smartphone, then iris scanner, and even the fingerprint scanner. To bring a similar technology on Samsung phones, the South Korean giant is reportedly also working  with an Israeli-based firm called Mantis Vision for developing the required tech.

There is also a possibility where the in-display fingerprint sensor may also double as a blood pressure and heart rate sensor, but it could take a while to develop, and there’s no surety if Samsung can make it in time for the Galaxy S10 release.

What’s more, rumors also hint that Samsung will further trim those bezels on the Galaxy S10 to offer a full screen experience. To make the top bezel slimmer, the Galaxy S10 could lose the earpiece and come with a sound-emitting display, similar to the first Mi MIX smartphone. The Galaxy S10 is expected to launch in January 2019 at CES or in February 2019 at MWC 2019.
