Samsung’s Galaxy S5 could be launched in India for Rs 51,500. This is not the official price and was leaked by retailer Mahesh Telecom, who has a good record when it comes to these kind of leaks. Samsung is hosting a press conference in India tomorrow where it is likely to announce the Galaxy S5 in India and provide more details about pricing and availability. The Galaxy S5 will go on sale globally on April 11.
The retailer further reveals that buyers will be able to pre-book the device for Rs 1,500 and Citibank credit card users will be entitled to a 15 percent cashback. Additionally, buyers will also be able to opt for EMI schemes for a period of 6, 12 or 18 months.
The claimed pricing contradicts recent reports which suggested that Samsung could price the Galaxy S5 lower than the Galaxy S4’s launch price (Rs 41,500). However, the weak value of the Indian Rupee might be the reason behind the higher pricing.
The Galaxy S5 was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year. As far as specifications are concerned, it features a 5.1-inch full HD Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. Also included is a 16-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera, 16GB of expandable internal storage and a 2,800mAh battery.
It also features a fingerprint scanner and a heart rate sensor, in addition to being water and dust resistant. On the software front, it runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top.
