Samsung is on its way to announce the next-gen Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones and ahead of the global announcement at the MWC 2018, the India price of its older Galaxy S7 Edge have been slashed. Base model of the Galaxy S7 Edge with 32GB internal storage is now available at Rs 35,900 while the high-end version with 128GB internal storage is available at Rs 37,900.

The revised pricing is a drop of Rs 6,000 on the original value and as Gadgets 360 notes, it applies to purchases through offline channels only. There is also a Paytm cashback worth Rs 5,000 if you pay using the QR scanner at an eligible retailer. By doing so, you will effectively pay Rs 30,900 for the 32GB model and Rs 32,900 for the 128GB model.

Although the Galaxy S7 Edge launched first in 2016 at a price of Rs 56,900. Since then, it has received price revisions a few times. Even as the smartphone is an older Galaxy phone, it is still considered as one of the best Android smartphones in years. As the company gears up for the launch of its next flagship smartphones, it makes sense to cut down the prices of the older smartphones.

As for specifications, the Galaxy S7 Edge came with Android 6.0 Marshmallow when launched. Presently, it runs Android Nougat. It is equipped with a 5.5-inch quad HD Super AMOLED display with spilling edges. It is powered by an octa-core Exynos 8890 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. For optics, there’s a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and smart OIS. Up front, there’s a 5-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture. It is fueled by a 3,600mAh battery.

Meanwhile, the upcoming Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are said to be one of the world’s first Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC powered smartphones. The talking points of the new Galaxy S9 series is the camera with a variable aperture. This enables the camera system to adjust to light conditions automatically, which results in brighter selfies even in low-light conditions. The Galaxy S9+ includes a dual-camera module, another first in its series.

Samsung will launch the new series on February 25. It is expected the Galaxy S9 could retail around Rs 60,000 in India while the Galaxy S9+ is likely to sell close to Rs 70,000. The company is expected to start accepting pre-orders from the day of launch, while shipping is expected to start from March 8, 2018.
