With the cameras being the highlight of the new Galaxy S9 duo, the AR emoji feature that it offers also stands apart. The feature essentially allows your to transform your selfie into an animated character or emoji of your choice, much like on the lines of iPhone X’s Animoji feature. However, the superior animation on AR Emoji has gives Samsung’s feature an edge. And now, Samsung together with Disney are taking the game up a notch.
According to a recent announcement by Samsung, the company has joined hands with Disney to bring its characters to life as new AR Emojis for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.

Samsung says that starting today, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ users will be able to access classic Disney characters – Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse– directly from their phone to create personalized messages. Characters from favorite Disney films including The Incredibles, Zootopia, and Frozen will roll out throughout the year.
The AR Emojis use deep learning and facial recognition technology to map more than 100 facial features to produce a 3D replica. The feature offers eighteen pre-set stickers, and can be easily shared across various platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram, and to other non-Galaxy S9 users..
While the feature has ghostly similarities to Animoji, Head of Samsung’s mobile business DJ Koh insists that the AR Emoji feature is not at all inspired by Apple’s work and in fact, the company had been working on it for years.
